Caring For Your Tile Floors

  • Sweep or vacuum tile floors at least once a week.
  • Damp mop tile floors with a cleanser recommended by the tile manufacturer. After washing, be sure to rinse the floor with clean water.
  • Do not use ammonia or bleaches on tile flooring. Cleansers containing these agents can damage the grout.
  • Never use steel wool or any abrasive substance on tile surfaces, as these materials can scratch or damage the tile.
  • Do not wax ceramic tile flooring.
  • Wipe up spills when they happen to prevent staining the grout. Clean up the spill with a manufacturer recommended cleanser and a clean, dry cloth.
  • Use mats at the entrances and exits to your home. You should also use mats on heavy traffic areas, like in front of your kitchen sink. Mats help protect the flooring from dirt and grit that can scratch or damage as well as excess water.
  • Place protective pads or "feet" under the legs of iron and metal furniture. Metal furniture particular can rust or scratch, which can cause damage and staining of your tile floors.

Caring For Your Tile Showers, Walls, And Countertops

Use a soft cloth or a squeegee to wipe down the suface of tiled shower areas after cleaning to prevent mold,mildew, and cleanser build up.

After cleaning tile countertops, wipe them down with a soft, dry cloth to prevent streaking and polish their shine.

Sealant

Apply or re-apply sealant to tile surfaces at least once a year to prevent the build up or dirt, soil, and grip and prevent staining.
